Squalane Oil

by S. Christopherson

This Squalane is steam distilled from olive oil. (Some squalane is solvent extracted and some comes from shark liver oil rather than olive). Think of this Squalane as the "best" component of olive oil for the skin. It is soft, silky and non-greasy to the touch. It is structured much the same as Vitamin A.  Vitamin A is one of the main nutrients necessary for healthy skin.

Because Squalane oil is so fine, it is absorbed deep into the skin very quickly. It has a natural affinity to the skin because it is one of the components of human sebum.  It has been found that as we age our skin produces less squalane; one of the reasons our skin ages.  Squalane also acts as a natural barrier to hold moisture in our skin. The loss of the skin's ability to retain water is what opens the door to age lines and dry rough skin.

Squalane can be used alone as a moisturizer, something of a find for those who are looking for a non-greasy moisturizer that does not require a preservative.  In creams and lotions it will soften the skin and help to retain moisture. It has been referred to as "nature’s facelift".  One company's ad goes something like this:  "a proven beauty oil, giving women around the world healthier, more radiant skin. Used regularly, this pure Squalane can do more than merely enrich your skin.. it can transform it, by helping to soften fine lines and making the skin more supple and youthful looking."

Besides the emollient, moisturizing and barrier qualities of Squalane, it is also effective for a number of other conditions.  "Squalane helps to discourage the growth of bacteria that can block normal cell development.   At the same time it helps protect it from the harmful effects of sun, winter cold, smoke and pollution".  It has been found to be helpful for acne, for hair care, and for dry scaly skin on elbows, knees and feet.  Diluted with water, Squalane can be effective for all types of rashes, from diaper rash to rashes caused by shaving.

Because it absorbs so quickly and completely into the skin, Squalane can be used by those with normal or oily skins as well.  There is no resultant "oil slick" that is so prevalent in in commercial face creams and serums.  Please note that our Intensive Hydrating Serun contains NO preservatives, just Vitamin E as an anti-oxidant.  Our unique pump bottle also keeps the Squalane contamination free, as fingers never touch the contents in the bottle.
